MONGOLIA
My grandfather was a horse jockey during the great depression, riding boxcars around the US and Mexico with his trainer (his father) to get to races. He died before I was born, but I loved hearing about his travels and loved a picture we had of him as a teenager on the track before a race. Decades later, I saw photos of young jockeys in the annual Naadam festival in Mongolia that reminded me of that era, and traveled there with a friend to photograph the festival and life in Mongolia. Following are highlights from the series.
